Thomas Jefferson called Monticello his “essay in architecture.” The author of the Declaration of Independence and third president of the United States studied the buildings of ancient Rome and began building his house in 1768 atop the “Little Mountain” where he had played as a boy. Lunch at historic Michie Tavern where visitors of an earlier era stopped to drink a secret tankard recipe and dance the Virginia Reel.
Depart 6:30 AM from the north end of the Park & Ride on Deereco Road (1/4 mile south off Padonia Road – Exit 17 off I-83) and 7:00 AM from the Carney Park & Ride on Harford Road and Jomat Avenue (3/4 mile north off beltway Exit 31-B). 10:45 AM tour of Michie Tavern followed by lunch at 11:30AM. 12:40PM depart for Monticello. 1:00 PM arrive at Monticello self-guided tour. 4:15 PM depart for Baltimore. Fast food stop on own en route before returning approximately 8:30PM at Carney Park & Ride and 9:00PM at Deereco Park & Ride.
COST OF TRIP :
$85.00 per person. A $40.00 deposit per person is required to confirm the reservation. Balance is due 30 days prior to trip. Seats will be assigned upon final payment.
