Pennsylvania’s own natural wonder, 50 miles long and 1,000 feet deep, embraces 300,000 acres of state-owned forestland. A horse-drawn covered wagon rides you into the PA Grand Canyon’s upper gorge and along Pine Creek on what was once an Indian path offering a unique perspective into this beautiful natural wonder. Take a scenic 12-mile train excursion to Hammond Lake glimpsing a variety of native animal species including deer, osprey, and blue heron.
Tuesday, October 12
Depart 6:30 AM from Carney Park & Ride, Harford Road and Jomat Avenue (3/4 mile north off exit 3l-B) and 7:00 AM from the north end of the Park & Ride on Deereco Road (1/4 mile south off exit 17 I-83 Padonia Road). Breakfast stop on own. 12:30 PM arrive in Wellsboro and meet step-on guide for the afternoon. 12:35-2:15PM visit downtown Wellsboro for browsing and lunch on own. Group will meet the guide and depart for the Tioga Central Railroad. 2:30-4:45PM all aboard a ride on the Tioga Central Railroad departing from Wellsboro Junction. This 1-1/2 hour roundtrip excursion travels to Hammond Lake and back. 5:00-6:30PM hot served dinner at the Log Cabin Inn in Ansonia featuring entree selections: 1. Stuffed boneless breast of chicken or (2) Baked stuffed haddock. Please provide your entree selection with your reservations. 7:20PM check into the Comfort Inn, Mansfield. Welcome reception upon arrival. This is a two-level facility with stair access.
Wednesday, October 13
7:00 AM-8:10 AM continental plus breakfast at the hotel. 8:10 AM depart for Wellsboro. Stop en route to pick up local guide 8:30 AM in downtown Wellsboro. 8:45-11:00AM Covered wagon rides into the PA Grand Canyon’s Upper Gorge along Pine Creek. Rides depart from Ansonia. (Please dress appropriately for the season, we suggest layers. Wagon rides are approximately 2 hours long and are held rain or shine. If canyon gorge is closed alternate location may be used. Wagon rides begin at 9:00 am. 11:15AM-12:45 PM visit Penn Wells Restaurant, Wellsboro, for a hot served luncheon. Entrée choice: (1.)Meatloaf served with whipped potatoes and gravy or (2) Roast Turkey with whipped potatoes and gravy. Also included are garden salad, chef’s choice of vegetable and dessert, plus coffee, tea or iced tea. Please provide your entrée selection with your reservations. 12:45-1:25PM driving tour through historic Wellsboro to the PA Grand Canyon. If time permits, guide will include brief stop at the Little Red Church along the way. 1:25-2:05PM visit the PA Grand Canyon Overlook and Visitors Center just outside of Wellsboro in Ansonia for great views of this natural wonder. 2:25 PM guide departs in downtown Wellsboro. 2:30PM depart for home. Fast food stop en route before arriving approximately 7:30PM at Deereco Park & Ride and 8:00 PM at Carney Park & Ride.
