Let the road lead you to the Boothbay Harbor region to observe the rocky and rugged coastline of Maine. Don’t forget to take your camera to Kennebunkport, a favorite spot among artists and writers. No trip to Maine is complete without a “down home” lobster bake. You are sure to have the time of your life in this scenic state of natural beauty.
Sunday, September 12
Depart 6:00 AM from the north end of the Park & Ride on Deereco Road (1/4 mile south off Padonia Road – Exit 17 off I-83) and 6:30 AM from the Carney Park & Ride on Harford Road and Jomat Avenue (3/4 mile north off beltway Exit 31-B). 6:45 AM depart Mt. Road Park & Ride (exit 74 off I-95 – please do not park overnight–this is for drop off only). A breakfast stop (on your own) will be made at 8:00 AM. Rest stops and lunch (on your own) will be made en route before arriving approximately 5:00 PM and check into the Ogunquit Motel, located on Route 1, Ogunquit, ME (Telephone #207-646-8336). Your property features outdoor pool, and is located one mile from downtown Ogunquit (also on the trolley route). Welcome reception upon arrival. 6:30PM Dinner included locally tonight.
Monday, September 13
7:30 AM full hot breakfast is included off-site at the Egg & I. 9:00 AM depart motel with your local guide for a driving tour of York including a photo stop at Nubble Light, one of the most photographed lighthouses in Maine, perched on a rocky outcrop of land! Touring continues to Kennebunkport. A stop will be made at the Franciscan Monastery then continue the driving tour past colonial mansions, the Wedding Cake House, and former President Bush’s summer estate on Walker’s Point. 11:00 AM free time for lunch on own and shopping in Dock Square, Kennebunkport. 1:15PM departure to return to Ogunquit and Perkins Cove. 2:00 PM a 50-minute narrated harbor cruise aboard the Finestkind – see lobster traps pulled and learn all about lobstering! Guide departs once group has boarded. 3:00 PM free time in Ogunquit, or return to the motel and relax. 6:00 PM dinner out locally.
Tuesday, September 14
Continental breakfast is included at the hotel at leisure. 8:30 AM depart motel with your local guide for touring to Boothbay Harbor. 10:00 AM admission is included to the Desert of Maine. Learn the history of “Maine’s Natural Phenomenon”, as you ride across the dunes! 12:00 PM free time for lunch on own and shopping in Boothbay Harbor. 2:00 PM driving tour of the area including East Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, and a photo stop of the spectacular rocky coastline at Ocean Point. 3:30 PM depart Boothbay. 4:30 PM dinner is on your own, with free time in Freeport to shop at L.L. Bean and the other upscale factory outlet stores. 8:00 PM approximate return to the motel. Guide departs.
Wednesday, September 15
Continental breakfast is included at the hotel at leisure. 8:30 AM depart motel with your guide to Portland. Your driving tour will take you past the boyhood home of Longfellow, the Victoria Mansion, and the fabulous Maine coastline dotted with the Casco Bay Islands. 11:00 AM free time for lunch on your own and shopping in the “Old Port” with its renovated buildings housing shops, boutiques and bistros! 2:00 PM Photo stop en route home at Portland Head Light, the oldest lighthouse in Maine, commissioned by George Washington and built in 1791. A fantastic photo stop! 3:30 PM return to the motel. Free time to relax or additional time in Ogunquit, walk the Marginal Way along the ocean or return to the motel to relax. Guide departs. 7:00 PM a delicious lobster dinner this evening is included.
Thursday, September 16
7:00 AM full hot breakfast is included off-site at the Egg & I. 8:00 AM check out and depart for Baltimore. Lunch on own and rest stops en route before arriving approximately 6:40 PM at Mt. Rd Park & Ride, 7:00PM at Carney Park and Ride and 7:30 PM at Deereco Park and Ride.
