Every season of the year abounds with its own special charms on Hilton Head. Modern-day plantations, historical cemeteries, marinas, beaches and the famous Harbour Town Lighthouse are all waiting to be explored. The warm sunny breezes will lead you to Beaufort to step back in time to a history dating back as far as the 1500’s. Then on to the southern hospitality of Savannah, Georgia to discover its cobblestone streets, antebellum homes and churches.
Sunday, October 24
Depart 6:00 AM from the north end of the Park & Ride on Deereco Road (1/4 mile south off Padonia Road – Exit 17 off I-83) and 6:30 AM from the Carney Park & Ride on Harford Road and Jomat Avenue (3/4 mile north off beltway Exit 31-B). 7:30 AM breakfast stop on own. Lunch on own and rest stops en route before arriving in Hilton Head. Dinner included upon arrival at a popular island restaurant. 8:15 PM check into the Comfort Inn and Suites, #2 Tanglewood Dr, Hilton Head, SC (843-842-6662).
Monday, October 25
Continental Breakfast 7:00-10:00 AM. Tour of Hilton Head Island 10:00AM-NOON. Named for the English sea captain William Hilton who spied the island in 1663, Hilton Head Island boasts a long and illustrious history. Tour modern-day residential plantations, historical cemeteries, marinas, beaches and the famous Harbour Town Lighthouse. NOON- 2:00PM lunch on own at Shelter Cove Marina. Dolphin Watch Cruise 2-4:00 PM. The Atlantic bottlenose dolphin is an 8-l4 foot mammal that lives in Hilton Head waters. Watch them surface for air, listen for a “whoosh” sound as they inhale air thru their blowholes, then submerge. 4:30 PM depart for Harbour Town Marina and free time before dinner for browsing and climbing the lighthouse. 5:30 PM dinner at the Crazy Crab Restaurant in Harbour Town. 7:30 PM return to the hotel.
Tuesday, October 26
Continental Breakfast 7:00-8:30 AM. 8:30AM depart for a tour of Beaufort and Parris Island Marine Base (if open). 9:30 AM pick up guide at Beaufort Welcome Center. 10:00AM-12 Noon tour of Beaufort and Parris Island Marine Base. Only 25 miles from Hilton Head, neighboring Beaufort makes for a wonderful day’s excursion. The feel of Beaufort comes from the historical 19th century, in the form of stately and expansive antebellum plantations, still preserved in their original beauty. 12-2PM Lunch and shopping on own along Bayfront Park. 3:00 PM return to the hotel for free afternoon. Dinner on own this evening, your guide will make some recommendations.
Wednesday, October 27
Continental Breakfast 7:00-8:30 AM. 8:30AM depart for Savannah, GA. 10:00AM-Noon tour historic Savannah to include a visit to a historic house museum and Cathedral. 12:30-2:30PM free time on your own along Riverstreet, the area adjacent to the Savannah River where old cotton warehouses have been turned into charming shops and restaurants. 2:30PM depart Savannah for Hilton Head Island. 3:30 PM arrive back at your hotel. 5:15PM depart hotel for dinner. 5:30 PM dinner included out tonight.
Thursday, October 28
7:00 AM continental breakfast. 8:00 AM depart for the return home. Lunch on own and rest stops en route before arriving approximately 8:00 PM at Carney Park & Ride and Deereco Park & Ride 8:30 PM.
